OCCIPITAL & TRIGEMINAL NERVE BLOCKS

About Occipital Nerve Block Injection Treatments

Occipital nerve blocks are injections of a local anesthetic and sometimes a steroid into the greater and lesser occipital nerves. These nerves are responsible for transmitting sensations from the skin of the scalp and neck, and when blocked can help reduce the intensity of headaches. Trigeminal nerve blocks are injections of the same anesthetic and steroid into the trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for carrying sensation from the face, eyes, and head. Blocking the trigeminal nerve can also reduce the intensity of headaches. Both occipital and trigeminal nerve blocks can help to reduce the frequency and intensity of chronic headaches.

The occipital nerve is a sensory nerve that begins at the spinal cord in the neck and runs up to the scalp. It provides sensation to the back of the head, face, and neck. An occipital nerve block is a procedure where a medication, such as a local anesthetic, is injected into the occipital nerves. This is usually done near the base of the skull, where the occipital nerves are located. The purpose of the block is to reduce pain and inflammation in the area, which can be caused by a variety of conditions, such as headaches, neck pain, or facial pain.

About Trigeminal Nerve Block Treatments

The trigeminal nerve is the largest of the twelve cranial nerves, and it is responsible for providing sensation to the face, including the scalp, forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, jaw, and cheek.

A trigeminal nerve block is a procedure in which medication is injected directly into the nerve in order to block the transmission of pain signals. This can help to reduce or eliminate the pain caused by conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia and cluster headaches. Trigeminal nerve blocks are typically performed by a trained medical professional, such as a neurologist or anesthesiologist, and the effects can last anywhere from a few days to several months.

Occipital & Trigeminal Nerve Blocks for Headache and Migraine Pain In Bedford & Benbrook TX

Nerve blocks are a method of relieving pain that involves the use of a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, to numb the nerve and reduce pain sensation. In some cases, a steroid is also added to the medication to help reduce inflammation. These medications act by blocking the signals that are sent from the nerve to the brain, thus preventing the brain from being aware of the pain and providing temporary pain relief.
